Giving Goes Down…Allegedly
(UK) We're talking about 'charitable giving' from corporates here folks during 2004/05. This is according to the new 'NVCO report' and they are not happy about it at all—outlined here by Campbell Robb, director of public policy at the NCVO:
Yet again we have seen income from businesses fall. The private sector talks a lot about corporate responsibility, but there is much more to be done in this area, and it is clearly time to start turning this rhetoric into reality.
Although when you take a closer look at the results all is not as it seems…
•38 per cent of total income comes from the state (up from 37 per cent in 2002);
•35 per cent is given by individuals (a drop slightly from 37 per cent);
•10 per cent of the total (up from 7 per cent two years ago) is money from foundations and trusts;
And as more and more companies now seek to align their investments with their marketing and employee relations/voluntary schemes, pure and simple 'hand-outs' are no longer the fashion.
Quite rightly so…
